Reverend Josette L. Franklin is a graduate of Hood College, Frederick, MD (B.A. in Management, 1990), and Samuel DeWitt Proctor School of Theology, Virginia Union University, Richmond, VA (Master of Divinity, 2010).
In 1974, Rev. Franklin and family joined the First Baptist Church of Deanwood, Washington, DC, under the pastorate of the late Reverend Andrew J. Allen, where she served in music ministry for 20 plus years as a church musician and choir director.
In 1998, Rev. Franklin joined St. Paul Baptist Church, Capitol Heights, MD. She served as the Director for the Praise Team and the Children’s Choir. In 2000, Rev. Franklin joined the staff full-time as the Church & King’s Kids Child Development Center Administrator. In 2005 she was named the Director for Children’s Ministry at St. Paul and served in that position until 2008. On the 3rd Sunday, February 10, 2008, Rev. Franklin preached her initial sermon and was licensed to the preaching ministry by Dr. Robert J. Williams Sr., Senior Pastor of St. Paul Church.
In 2008, Rev. Franklin became a part of the Mt. Moriah Baptist Church, Washington, DC, Ministerial Staff as the Minister of Worship and Arts and served in that position through May 2010. She became the Executive Assistant to the Office of the Senior Pastor in 2010, during which time she also served part-time (2011-2017) as the Director for the Children’s Choir, Youth Choir, and Children’s Ministry at the Mt. Ennon Baptist Church in Clinton, MD. On Saturday, May 14, 2011, Rev. Franklin was ordained to the Gospel Ministry by Dr. Lucius M. Dalton, Senior Pastor of Mt. Moriah Baptist Church.
In June 2019, Pastor Franklin became the first African American Pastor of the Greenwood-Laurel Park United Methodist Church Charge, with the Richmond District of the Virginia Annual Conference of the United Methodist Church (VAUMC). She serves with the VAUMC Cross Racial/Cross Cultural Committee as the Charlottesville and Richmond District Representative, and on the Mission Encounter Planning Committee.
Pastor Franklin is the proud mother of two daughters: Lydia Zipporah and Madison Erica; the eldest of four children, she is the daughter of Reverend Joseph and Linda Franklin, of Prince George’s County, Maryland.
